Creating an FNE Server

FlexNet Operations 2014

You can define a FlexNet Embedded (FNE) Server in FlexNet Operations. When defined, an FNE Server can submit its own capability requests to FlexNet Operations, and serve its own licenses to separate FNE clients (referred to as served clients on the Manage Devices page).

A server can comprise up to 2 physical devices, distinguished by Device ID: one primary server and one backup server. As with client devices, you can also define a Test Server.

For details on how to create an FNE server with extended host ID to distribute licenses to more than one enterprise customer, refer to About Extended Host IDs and Creating an FNE Server with Extended Host ID.

Note: Adding a second Device ID is permitted only when the system configuration settings allow adding redundant servers. (See Configuring Embedded Devices Settings for more information.)

Note: Enabling the Allow Adding Redundant Server system configuration setting can negatively impact FNE activation performance.

To create an FNE Server

1. On the Manage Devices page, click the Servers tab.
2. Click Add, then select Add Server (or Add Test Server).
3. On the Create a Server page, under Device ID, enter a unique identifier for the first device.
4. If the server includes a second device, click Add, then enter the Device ID of the second device.
5. Select a host type from the Type drop-down list. When you choose a host type, FlexNet Operations shows the ID Type selector and controls for custom attributes (if any).
6. If the host type includes any custom attributes, enter values for these.
7. Select a host ID type from the ID Type drop-down list, and click Submit. (For a list of supported FNE host ID types, see the FlexNet Operations release notes.) In addition to the Publisher Identity and Description controls, FlexNet Operations reveals the lists and controls for End Customer and Channel Partners, Pre-Built License, and Add-Ons.
8. Select a publisher identity for the device from the Publisher Identity drop-down list.
9. If desired, in Description, enter an optional description of the device.
10. Click Save.
