Generating an Add-On License

FlexNet Operations 2014

An add-on license defines the additional capabilities of a device. Typically, add-ons are used to define the functionality of different devices.

You can generate add-on licenses online (programmatically) or manually on the administrative console or the self-service portal. (Devices that cannot connect directly to FlexNet Operations can activate additional capabilities via the manual process of offline activation.) When you generate add-on licenses manually you can do so with a request file (offline activation) or without.

The following steps describe how to manually generate an add-on license for both regular activations and offline activations. For a short-cut offline activation process, see Offline Activation: Generating a License.

To generate an add-on license

1. On the Manage Devices page, click the tab for the type of device for which you want to generate a license. Choose either Clients or Servers.
2. From the device list, click the Device ID for which to generate an add-on.
3. Under Add-Ons, click Add Entitlement Line Item.
4. Under Select Line Items, add one or more items, then click Save.
5. Click Generate License. This button opens the Offline Device Activation page.
6. At the Do you have a request file? prompt
Click No, if you don’t have a request file. In this case, a response with the current entitlements will be generated for the device.
Click Yes, if you do have a request file (offline activation). Click Browse, navigate to the request file, and click Submit. In this case, the entitlements will be updated based on the content of the request, and a response will be generated with the new entitlements for the device.
7. Click Generate. The add-on license is generated.

You can view generated licenses by selecting the license to be viewed and clicking View.

You can also download an add-on license as a binary or base-64 to your local system by selecting the license and clicking Download.
