Creating License Templates

License templates provide a necessary foundation for successful keyboard activation on FlexNet Embedded (FNE) devices. Both the FNE client on the device and the FlexNet Operations server must possess identical license templates so the request generated by the device is recognized by FlexNet Operations and the response generated by FlexNet Operations is recognized by the device.
A license template is a binary file that has a unique template ID and a single product or suite with one or more features to be activated on the device. Keyboard activation request and response codes are used to unlock/activate those features on the device. A device can have multiple license templates.
FlexNet Operations creates license templates as .bin files that you can send to your users to be downloaded to their device.
Note: Only products and suites that use embedded license models with the Can be used on a device policy support the creation of license templates.
To generate a license template

On the Manage Devices page, click Create Template. This opens the Create Template page. |

On the Create Template page, enter a unique Template ID. This can be an integer value from 0 to 65535. |

Enter a Template Name. |

Select a License Model for this template. |
|

Select a Publisher Identity. |
|

Set the Machine Type. Choose from Unknown, Physical, or Virtual. |

Set an expiration date for the license template. Choose Specify Expiration Date or Permanent. If you choose to specify an expiration date, the administrative console shows the Expiration Date control. |

Add a product or suite. When you click Add Product or Suite, the administrative console opens the Select Product page in a new window. Select a product or suite, and click OK. |

Click Save to save the license template on the FlexNet Operations server. |
Once a license template has been created, it must be deployed before it can be downloaded. You can download a deployed license template as a .bin file and send it to the device owner to be applied to the device. See Managing License Templates for instructions on the download process.
