FlexNet Operations 2014
The behavior of FlexNet Operations with regard to Virtualization Policy settings, especially for the Allow activation on Virtual Machines setting, depends on several factors.
The virtualization policy is supported for licenses generated by FlexNet Publisher version 11.10 or later. For licenses generated with a FlexNet Publisher version prior to 11.10, the virtualization policy is not evaluated.
Allow Activation on Virtual Machines
When setting license model policies, the choices you make for Virtualization Policy settings—along with the host machine type (physical or virtual) that sends the activation request, the FlexNet Publisher version used on that host machine, and your FlexNet Operations system configuration—determine how FlexNet Operations evaluates and responds to the request.
Note: A FlexNet Operations system configuration setting on the Trusted Storage Activation page affects how FlexNet Operations evaluates activation requests from virtual machines: Force default Transaction Keys for all FNP versions. See Configuring Trusted Activation Settings for more information.
• | When Allow activation on Virtual Machines is set to Yes and the activation request comes from a virtual machine (with VMID), FlexNet Operations behavior follows the conditions set out in the table below. |
FlexNet Publisher Version |
Force Default Transaction Keys |
Behavior |
11.10-11.12 |
No |
FlexNet Operations attempts to use the product’s virtualization-aware transaction key to configure trusted storage. (If no virtualization-aware transaction key exists, FlexNet Operations reports an error.) |
11.10-11.12 |
Yes |
FlexNet Operations uses the product’s default transaction key to configure trusted storage. |
11.12.1 and later |
Yes or No |
FlexNet Operations uses the product’s default transaction key to configure trusted storage. |
• | When Allow activation on Virtual Machines is set to No and the activation request comes from a virtual machine, the activation fails. |
If an activation request comes from a physical machine, the virtualization policy is not evaluated at activation time.
Deny Repair If ACPI Generation ID Is Changed
For trusted license models, if virtual machine activations are allowed, this setting determines whether to deny license repair if the virtual machine’s ACPI Generation ID (UMN5) is changed. This policy can be set or reset at the license model level or at the entitlement level.
• | Set to Yes to deny repair requests if the ACPI Generation ID has changed. |
• | Set to No to allow repair requests. |
Repair requests from physical machines are not impacted.
The repair policy is supported for virtual machine licenses generated by FlexNet Publisher version 11.12.1 or later.
