In general, served buffer licenses are installed using the same capability request–response mechanism that trusted storage licenses use. However, the client device stores the license in a buffer instead of trusted storage. Served buffer licenses are not returnable to the license server or the back office. On the license server, expired licenses are returned to the pool of available licenses.
Sync operations between the FNE server and FNO send information about the served buffer nature of a served client; the sync record’s served buffer property indicates that the served client is using a buffer license. This information is sent back to the FNE server during the sync from FNO.
Served buffer licenses can be generated only by FNO web services.
Note: FNO has no user interface to support generation of served buffer licenses. Flexera Software recommends using FNO web services.
Note: When a served client crashes irreparably, the restoreServedClient web service enables the publisher to rehost its licenses on a new client with a new host ID. Refer to Restoring a Served Client and the FlexNet Operations Web Services Guide for details.
